Rite of Spring, Bridge to Eternity, Painting by Craig Honeycutt, artist and art instructor from Ashland, Oregon

I am constantly compelled to paint symbolic narrative works with lots of figures set in local landscapes and seascapes. Since my earliest recollection nature has emotionally moved me. The agelessness of the environment offers me endless mystery and folklore that continues to shape my character. It reflects a bigger part of me and affords me peace of mind. I have been an artist/teacher for well over 30 yrs, working with oil, watercolor, most all drawing and markers, plus some digital media. I teach a healthy body of talented students in my Ashland studio.

I am an art maker, pathfinder and storyteller. I use whatever materials inspire me to begin my journey. My style is a blend of Folk and Fantasy art, a fusion of what I see everyday, dream and imagine. My paintings evolve over many layers, using paint, marks and intuition to find the quiet, soulful figures I call my Urban Folk. I am on a journey, exploring the path of intuitive art, listening to the voice within to learn, create and share what I find.

Recently, I have been moved to explore the common ground between sculpture and painting. These pieces are made of paper and paper clay in combination with images from my paintings and mounted on wrapped canvas. I expect them to evolve and morph as I continue to explore this new dimension.
