Stefan Baumann, a respected artist and oil painting instructor from the Bay area, now lives in Mt. Shasta. His passionate love of nature and use of light in his artwork began in Lake Tahoe and blossomed at Stanford University. He paints, and teaches students how to paint, the beauty of the forests and rural landscapes near his home and in the Rogue Valley.
The subject matter that I am interested in is representational. I strive to be thorough and accurate and yet catch what is fleeting and lively. The work I'm most proud of shows life as I see it: fatally flawed, but amazingly beautiful.
I paint in an effort to give solid form to ideas that increase the depth of my experiences in the process of living. American Modernists and their quest to discover a history of art particular to the country they lived in connect me in my personal exploration with European impressionist and post- impressionist artists. I strive to continue their work and further my own understanding of how art concurrently creates and connects us to our culture.
My artwork is in private and corporate collections world-wide. I am an award-winning artist, past gallery-owner, and my art has been in many exhibitions. I work in various mediums, subjects and types of art and am a member of several art societies, and past member of many more.

We're a group of visual artists gathering at different spots in scenic Southern Oregon for plein air painting sessions every Monday. Informally structured, we paint outdoors together each week when the weather is favorable - and indoors for studio sessions with live models when it's not - for the past 26 years. Call us to find out where we're painting this week! We have an Annual Show & Sale of our members' work each August/September in Jacksonville.
