Anderst uses her illustrative style to form fictional but plausible unions of biological and man-made structures on canvas. She spent her childhood poring over her father's anatomy books, developing an intense passion for botany, neurology, entomology, evolution and oil paints. She received art education at Southern Oregon Art Academy, Gage Academy in Seattle and in 2010 melded her scientific and art interests with a certificate in Natural Science Illustration at the University of Washington.

The differences between my art and photography are night and day, like my varied interests. I’m constantly amazed by the serene beauty and magical happenings that happen in Nature. Architecture has always been an interest of mine as well. The juxtaposition of the organic with man-made is most interesting. My drawings and paintings often convey a sensual feel. I depict the beautiful nude female with a simplification of form.

My goal in creating images is to cause one to pause for a moment, look and ponder. Each photo reflects my belief that we are challenged by uncertainty and blessed with mystery. Rio Querencia, River of Serenity, is both a state of mind and my home on the Applegate River in Southern Oregon.

A painter and poet, I play in the crossroads of art & spirit. My paintings are visual stanzas of a poem I will spend my life writing - with brush & pen. I've had the honor to create and exhibit art in the United States, Europe & Micronesia. "As with poetry, painting is either a battle or a dance. Given the choice between music & a sword, I choose music." It's a lovely dance. Anna teaches workshops in prophetic art and poetry; see her listing in the Teaching Artists directory.
